In 2019, the gambling industry’s advertising spend in Victoria was estimated at $70 million dollars – excluding sponsorships, in-program content and other forms of advertising, such as direct marketing, frequently used to promote sports gambling operators. So there’s been an increase in concern from parents and the community, who fear children are being exposed to harmful, addictive, betting behaviour.
We teamed up with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, calling on major sporting clubs and sporting leaders, to create a new kind of sports club. A club dedicated to loving the game, not the odds. It’s a club that parents, kids, teams and schools can all get behind, to help make the world of sports a safer place for the next generation, and make sure everyone knows that gambling shouldn’t be a normal part of the game. It’s a grassroots movement with a mission: turning an educational program into a community initiative by leveraging public support.
